About the Impact Texas Initiative

Do you want to be part of a statewide dialogue with other executive leaders from the nonprofit community to create solutions for lasting change in Texas?

Join us as we step outside the box and engage in a highly interactive discussion to create a shift in the way we think about addressing social challenges in our local communities and across Texas. Connect with other nonprofit executive leaders as you hone your leadership skills, learn about systems thinking and develop skills to better influence others in solving community challenges.

The Impact Texas Initiative consists of multiple learning opportunities specifically tailored for the executive leaders of nonprofit organizations. First, the group will examine behaviors that contribute to personal and interpersonal effectiveness by attending the three-day Management Development Program. This is followed by Systems Thinking, a two-day workshop showing executive leaders the benefit of using systems thinking when addressing organizational challenges. These two learning opportunities are brought to you by the Governor's Center for Management Development at The University of Texas at Austin. Finally, the group will learn a new way of analyzing how influence works and how to become the catalyst for positive community change by attending an interactive two-day course facilitated by John Bourke, Principle Associate for VitalSmarts and founder and President of Bourke and Associates. Immediately following is a half-day consensus workshop that answers the question, "Now what?" by encouraging the group to envision new possibilities for social change.

The Impact Texas Initiative's three learning opportunities will take place over a six-month period. One executive leader from each organization can participate in the Impact Texas Initiative. (An executive leader is someone within the organization who has the authority to make managerial decisions.) It is expected that the same individual will attend all three trainings. Each organization may receive up to $1,000 for time the organization's executive leader spent participating in the program.

The total estimated value of the Impact Texas Initiative per grantee is approximately $5,000 in cash and services.
