Asset Map and Resource Location Tool
OneStar Foundation: Texas Center for Social Impact is working with the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) to create the Texas Connector, a pilot Web site that displays information on nonprofits in a geo-mapping format called an "asset map."
OneStar and NCTCOG are creating the Connector in response to an identified need for a statewide system that provides a visual "snapshot" of social service resources. The Connector will initially incorporate information on nonprofits listed in 2-1-1 Texas' databases-including name, location, type of organization and service area-and will map this information through an online geo-coded database. With this tool, users will be able to search for nonprofits in a given area by type. They will also be able to view these nonprofits in relation to geo-coded regional demographic and social indicators in a customizable manner.
Funded by the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of the Governor, the initial prototype of the Connector displays only nonprofit information from the NCTCOG five-county region of Colin, Dallas, Rockwall, Denton and Tarrant counties.
Using the Connector
The Connector has several unique features, including:
- The ability to search for nonprofits by name, address or type within a specific geographic area.
- Analysis of nonprofit infrastructure in general or in relation to particular needs or social indicators.
- Customized statistical reports for identified regions of interest.
Potential users and usages include, but are not limited to:
- Organizations interested in fostering collaborations and partnerships.
- Data and analysis to assist grant-writers and other fund development efforts.
- Foundations, corporations and grantmakers.
- Universities and other stakeholders interested in research or analysis of the nonprofit sector.
- State government procurement departments, local governments, legislators, policymakers and lobbyists, for decision-making and planning purposes such as identification of gaps in services, analysis of provider base capacity and decisions regarding regional grant funding.
- State agency referrals of clients to services.
Explore the Texas Connector and Complete the Survey
We need your input! Your feedback is critical to the success of this project. Click below to go to the Texas Connector prototype. Once in the tool, click on the link labeled "Take Survey" to share your thoughts and suggestions with us. The survey takes approximately two minutes to complete.

Note: This application is a proof-of-concept only, and should not be used for decision-making purposes at this time. Currently, the service provider data is limited to the counties of Rockwall, Tarrant, Denton, Dallas, and Collin. OneStar cannot guarantee accuracy or completeness of database during this prototype phase.
