Recipients of new Texas Social Innovation Initiative Award to be Unveiled Dec. 9 at 2009 Governor’s Nonprofit Leadership Conference
Innovative New Media Conference on Social Innovation to Follow
AUSTIN -The 2009 Governor's Nonprofit Leadership Conference, Dec. 9-10 in Dallas, will bring together world-renowned speakers on social innovation and leaders of Texas nonprofit organizations for a provocative series of discussions on critical issues for today's non-profits. The 32nd annual conference will feature internationally recognized social entrepreneurs Robert Egger of DC Central Kitchen and Andrew Wolk of Root Cause in Cambridge as keynote speakers, as well as numerous special events, seminars, and networking opportunities.
The Governor's Nonprofit Leadership Conference will be Dec. 9-10 at the Sheraton Downtown Dallas Hotel in the Sheraton Conference Center Lone Star Ballroom. Media are invited to attend.
This year's conference will feature a special announcement of groundbreaking partnerships between government, business and social service organizations, highlighting seven innovative nonprofit organizations that will be awarded additional support to stimulate social innovation in the North Texas region. The recipients of the new Texas Social Innovation Initiative will be formally announced at conference Opening Plenary on December 9 at 8:00 am.
The Texas Social Innovation Initiative-a partnership between OneStar Foundation: Texas Center for Social Impact, Root Cause, a nonprofit consulting firm in Boston, and Dallas Social Venture Partners-will give each of seven innovative nonprofit organizations who competed among 60 nonprofits in Greater Dallas/Forth Worth, more than $25,000 in cash and business and marketing strategy assistance to support their growth and impact.
A new media streaming video conversation--designed for social media members and featuring a discussion by leaders in the nonprofit sector about collaborative efforts to stimulate socially innovative activities in Texas --will immediately follow the announcement, at l0:30 a.m. CST. Discussants are Elizabeth Darling, president/CEO of OneStar Foundation; Stacy Caldwell, executive director of Dallas Social Venture Partner; and Andrew Wolk, CEO of Root Cause.
