Today, OneStar Foundation: Texas Center for Social Impact launched a new AmeriCorps*Texas recruitment campaign aimed at connecting people interested in AmeriCorps with Texas programs looking for members. The campaign, which features real stories from five Texans, is the first AmeriCorps campaign from OneStar Foundation.

The campaign shows how AmeriCorps changed the lives of five members who have served in Texas—including Texas State Representative Elliott Naishtat. In the 30-second public service announcement, the members describe their experiences:

  • “AmeriCorps helped me make a difference.”
  • “AmeriCorps empowered me.”
  • “AmeriCorps made me a hero.”
  • “AmeriCorps gave me a jumpstart to something more.”
  • “AmeriCorps led me to helping people.”

The campaign video then inspires viewers to imagine the possibilities if they joined AmeriCorps, asking them, “What can AmeriCorps do for you?” OneStar will expand the campaign online with blog posts from four of the participants, where they discuss their service and how much it has shaped their lives.

Printed materials will be distributed to independent living centers, volunteer centers, university career centers and more, including OneStar’s AmeriCorps*Texas grantees. Through these organizations, the materials will then be distributed to people interested in joining AmeriCorps.

“We know that serving our neighbors is a hallmark of what makes Texas great,” said Elizabeth M. Darling, President and CEO of OneStar Foundation. “We believe that this campaign will be integral in linking Texans who are interested in AmeriCorps opportunities with organizations that can utilize their passion and skills to truly make a difference in Texas communities.”

AmeriCorps offers individuals of all ages and backgrounds a chance to serve their communities and address local needs. Members can serve in full or part-time positions. Qualified individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply to AmeriCorps programs. Reasonable accommodations are provided, and programs must conduct all activities in fully accessible settings.
