This workshop is an important introduction to legal issues for congregations that have 501(c)(3)s or are interested in starting a nonprofit organization. The workshop will cover legal issues relating to corporate governance and compliance.
Topics include an overview of state and federal laws covering nonprofits, insurance protection, legal implications of fundraising, lobbying, and many other important issues to keep the organization and its board of directors from being sued or losing tax-exempt status. Attendees are also provided with a useful "legal audit" of their internal operations.
Congregations are encouraged to bring their staff and board members to attend this workshop. Space is limited. RSVPs are needed prior to Friday, April 17, 2009.
