In April, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act and officially recognized September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. This September 11, Americans will collaboratively participate in volunteering and service projects across all fifty states to serve and strengthen their communities.
Individuals looking for service opportunities on or around September 11 can search the Web site Serve.gov for projects planned in their ZIP Code, city or state. In addition, organizations wishing to reach out to volunteers can post their September 11 service projects on Serve.gov.
United We Serve is President Obama's national call to service. The initiative began on June 22, 2009. While the initiative officially concludes on September 11, 2009, participants are encouraged to continue integrating volunteerism and service into their lives. The Corporation for National and Community Service leads United We Serve and manages Serve.gov.
