MLK Day

OneStar Foundation: Texas Center for Social Impact is encouraging people to volunteer in their communities and be a part of a national service movement this January 19, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Organizations across the nation are planning community service projects for MLK Jr. Day. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the state of Texas alone has 118 organizations and 285 service projects registered for MLK Jr. Day participation.

CNCS' Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Web site lists both MLK Jr. Day service projects and year-round volunteer opportunities at http://www.mlkday.gov. The Web site also gives visitors the opportunity to post their service projects at http://www.mlkmobilization.org/america_serves.

As part of President-elect Barack Obama's "Renew America Together" service initiative, the USA Service Corp and the Presidential Inauguration Committee Web site lists volunteer projects for January 17-19 at http://www.usaservice.org/page/content/eventsearch. Visitors to the Web site can post service opportunities at http://www.usaservice.org/page/event/create.
