The workshops include:

Managing Through Difficult Times: Nonprofits are facing an unprecedented need to focus on the impact that the current economy is having on their short-term health. This has led many to adopt a survival approach and create immediate cost-reduction initiatives, such as layoffs, hiring freezes, reduced travel, lowered expenses and across-board budget cuts. However, these belt-tightening efforts are generally not sustainable beyond the short term and may be a barrier to achieving long-term strategic and structural improvements. This session may qualify attendees for 2.5 CPE credits.

Board Governance: In today's environment, characterized by greater scrutiny and increased regulatory requirements, board members need to understand and protect the interest of their constituents while providing leadership to the senior executive team. Attend this workshop to learn how board members can better protect your organization and mitigate risk for leadership.

The New Form 990: For 2008, tax exempt organizations face a challenging updated Form 990 Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax, which is subject to public disclosure. Sweeping changes include an expanded format emphasizing activity reporting, policies, procedures and governance issues, which intends to increase the transparency and comparability of all tax exempt organizations. This workshop will guide the participants through the maze of new forms, and will outline an action plan for the tax exempt organization to consider regarding the updated form. This session may qualify attendees for two CPE credits.

Greening and Sustainability: Greening is not a fad. It is a long-term trend that will require every health care organization to invest strategically and programmatically to conserve natural resources and create a healthy environment for customers, patients and employees. Deloitte professionals will discuss ways nonprofits can incorporate greening and sustainability to benefit their organizations.

Workshops will be repeated at different times, so please select only two. Space is limited to first come, first serve. Parking with tunnel access is available at the Heritage Clay Street garage for $20. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for morning and afternoon sessions.
